YEREVAN, DECEMBER 13, ARMENPRESS. On the night of December 13-14, the Geminid meteor shower, one of the most abundant meteor showers of the year, will appear in the night sky.

According to the Byurakan Astrophysical Observatory, this  astronomical event will achieve its highest intensity on the night of December 13-14, with the potential to display more than 100 meteors per hour under a completely dark sky.

Meteor showers occur when the Earth, during its annual orbit, passes through clusters of meteorites. These meteorites burn up in the atmosphere, creating bright trails often referred to as "falling stars." The Geminid meteor shower, observed from November 19 to December 24, is especially active this year.

The Geminid meteor shower is noted for its brightness and intensity.

Its radiant, the origin point of the meteor shower, is located in the direction of the Gemini constellation, which gives it its name.
