YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 13, ARMENPRESS. No government official from Armenia has presented bid for participation in the COP29 in Baku, foreign minister Ararat Mirzoyan has said.
Mirzoyan was asked in parliament by MP Lilit Minasyan to comment on the Azeri FM’s statement claiming that representatives of Armenia have registered for participation in COP-29 but have not attended the conference.
Mirzoyan said that such statements have been made by other Azerbaijani officials as well.
The FM said Armenian officials did not register for participation. “No official of the Republic of Armenia presented a bid for participation or registered for COP-29,” he said.
He did not rule out that perhaps civil society organizations have presented bids, but noted that he is unaware of it. “But if that’s what they mean, then you know that Armenia is a free, democratic country. And the government of Armenia has neither the desire nor the tools to direct or control civil society organizations.”
On November 11, Mirzoyan’s deputy Vahan Kostanyan told reporters that Armenia is still undecided whether or not to participate in COP29. He said the issue depends on the dynamics in the Armenia-Azerbaijan talks.
