Volkswagen and BMW workers strike in Germany

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 29, ARMENPRESS. Workers in Germany’s steel and electrical industries, including employees from automakers Volkswagen (VW) and BMW, have launched the first wave of protests, according to RIA Novosti.

The IG Metall trade union began these protests on the night of October 29, with VW and BMW workers joining in. Work across the country is expected to be suspended during the day.

Media reports indicate that 250 employees at Volkswagen’s Osnabrück plant, which faces potential closure, are participating in a warning strike. In Regensburg, workers gathered with posters outside the BMW factory. A strike is also anticipated at the Audi plant in Ingolstadt. Additionally, employees from battery manufacturer Clarios, as well as companies Jensen GmbH, KSM Castings Group, Robert Bosch, Waggonbau Graaff, and ZF CV Systems in Hildesheim, are taking part in the protests.

The primary demands include a 7% pay increase for employees and an additional 170 euros for trainees. The trade union cites inflation in Germany as the driving factor behind these demands.
