5,600 Karabakh Armenians apply for citizenship, says deputy interior minister

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 28, ARMENPRESS. 5,600 forcibly displaced persons of Nagorno-Karabakh have so far applied for Armenian citizenship, and 3,611 of them have already been granted the request, Deputy Minister of Interior Arpine Sargsyan told lawmakers on Monday.

Speaking about the registration process of the forcibly displaced persons of Nagorno-Karabakh, Sargsyan said 113,635 persons have so far received temporary protection certificates, 99,091 persons have been registered.

“As of this moment, approximately 5,600 persons have applied for citizenship, from whom 3,611 have been granted citizenship,” she said, adding that the number tends to grow given the government’s policy.

She said that in the nine months of 2024, 14,876 persons have been granted citizenship by Presidential decree (7,1% YoY decrease). 2,859 cases on suspending citizenship were registered (4,9% growth).
