YEREVAN, OCTOBER 15, ARMENPRESS. Speaker of Parliament of Armenia Alen Simonyan has announced that Armenia and Azerbaijan have so far agreed on 16 points of the would-be peace agreement and that the two countries are “on the cusp of an accord.”
Speaker Simonyan made the announcement in his speech during the General Debate of the 149th IPU Assembly in Geneva.
“On the subject of peacemaking, I do want to report that Armenia and Azerbaijan are on the cusp of an accord. For context, when the peace process started in earnest many months ago, Azerbaijan wanted our agreement on 5 internationally recognized points. I am pleased to announce that, to date, we have agreed on 16. Ladies and gentlemen, the perfect must no longer be the enemy of the good. The time to make peace has come; the time for peace is now. We invite Azerbaijan to muster the political will to seize the moment and join us in making the possible real. Armenia, for its part, is ready to sign a peace treaty even today,” Simonyan said in conclusion of his speech.
