YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 25, ARMENPRESS. The Eastern Mediterranean region is full of geopolitical turmoil, unilateral actions that violate international law and sovereignty, thus further deteriorating the situation by undermining peace and stability in the region, Minister of Defense of Cyprus Vasilis Palmas has said.
“Cyprus supports the peaceful resolution of all disputes based on the principles of international law and good-neighborly relations,” Palmas said at a joint press conference with Armenian Defense Minister Suren Papikyan. “We believe that dialogue and relations of mutual trust are important instruments to establish lasting peace and stability in the Eastern Mediterranean. Cyprus is committed to strengthen peace and stability in the region as a pillar of stability.”
On behalf of Cyprus, Minister Palmas thanked Armenia for the support in international and regional organizations on the Cyprus issue.
“I had the opportunity to inform about the security situation in Cyprus, and Turkiye’s efforts, which is trying to use illegal immigration as an instrument of pressure,” Palmas said.
“In the last years Turkiye has been engaged in revisionist foreign policy and aggressive rhetoric, and threatens the stability and security in Cyprus and the entire Eastern Mediterranean region,” he said.
Armenian Minister of Defense Suren Papikyan said that Yerevan is in favor of a negotiated resolution to the Cyprus issue based on UN resolutions.
