In Armenia, Russian Deputy PM gets acquainted with restoration of flood-damaged railway

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 14, ARMENPRESS. Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk has visited Armenia’s Lori province to get acquainted with the results of the restoration work of the railway infrastructures damaged during the May floods.

Overchuk was accompanied by the executives of the Russian Railways and South Caucasian Railways (SCR) companies.

Overchuk took the electric train from Vanadzor to Akhtala station, where the floods destroyed the railway in 6 parts, South Caucasian Railways said in a press release. He got acquainted with the technologies and volume of the restoration work.

The given part of the railway is the Armenian railway network’s only branch connecting it to the outside world. SCR experts work jointly with colleagues from Russian Railways and Georgian Railways to repair it. 425 tons of cargo has been transported by the SCR since the restoration began.

The SCR said a temporary scheme has been launched for transporting essential goods to Armenia until the restoration is completed.  Russian Railways and South Caucasian Railways have directed over 800 million drams for eliminating the consequences of the floods.

The SCR is a subsidiary of the Russian Railways.
