YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 4, ARMENPRESS. Armenian lawmaker, chair of the parliamentary committee on foreign relations Sargis Khandanyan has reacted to Azerbaijan’s statements about Armenia’s weapons acquisitions.
“Armenia’s actions of meetings its defense needs and solving objectives are its sovereign decisions, and third parties cannot force or demand Armenia to stop buying armaments,” he said.
Khandanyan reminded that Armenia has offered Azerbaijan to introduce a mutual arms control mechanism, which Baku has ignored.
“Azerbaijan is also buying weapons. If they have such concerns, we have more such concerns. And that’s why it would be very reasonable for such a mechanism to be in place. But the offer to introduce such a mechanism remains unanswered,” the MP said.
