Yerevan to host World Military Wrestling Championship

YEREVAN, AUGUST 29, ARMENPRESS. The Government of Armenia has decided to redistribute the 2024 state budget, allocating 476 million 241 thousand drams from the reserve fund to the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports. This funding is designated for organizing the World Military Wrestling Championship to take place in Yerevan from November 18 to 24.

According to preliminary data, over 40 countries, with around 400 athletes, are expected to participate in the championship.

Since 1995, the Armenian Ministry of Defense has been a member of the International Military Sports Council (CISM), the largest sports organization in the world after the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Since 2014, servicemen from the Armenian Ministry of Defense have participated in various championships and games organized by the CISM and have won numerous prizes.

"The International Military Sports Council has granted the Republic of Armenia the right to host the 2024 World Military Wrestling Championship, taking into account the successes of Armenian servicemen, as well as the traditions and development of wrestling in Armenia," reads the  statement issued by the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports of the Republic of Armenia.
