The original wooden building of the Surb Prkich (Saint Savior) Armenian Apostolic Church in Batumi was built in 1874, but later the wooden structure was dismantled, and the stone building of the church was built in the same place in 1887-1898 with the efforts of the city's Armenian community and the famous oil producer and businessman Alexander Mantashev. Soviet regime, the church is closed and the building functions as an observatory. In 1992, the church was returned to the Armenian community. It has been operating since 1995.
