Photo exhibition and website presentation with enhanced tools: Armenpress' 'Documenting the Century' exhibition

YEREVAN, JUNE 27, ARMENPRESS.  “Documenting the Century” exhibition by the state news agency Armenpress includes exclusive archival photos, allowing visitors to turn the pages of the past and "meet" outstanding artists, sportsmen, political and military figures.

The exhibition also recalls important events of  the country and the world, the construction of historical and cultural monuments.

The exhibition has opened today at the heart of Yerevan, at the Artists' Union of Armenia.

The event also featured the presentation of the new Armenpress website with enhanced tools.

Armenia's Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports, Zhanna Andreasyan, emphasized that documenting life through photographs is an art.

"Thanks to photographs, we are present not only in the documentation of our history but also in the exhibition of works of art. We, therefore, attach great importance to the holding and dissemination of such exhibitions. It is common to think that photography is only the recording of the moment, but thanks to the sharp eye of photographers, the same episode of history can be seen from a completely different perspective, revealing subtle layers not visible at first glance. I greatly value this exhibition, which provides an opportunity to acquaint oneself with the most important pages of recent history," said Andreasyan.

Armenpress has accompanied and walked with us throughout the history. The Agency is one of our best partners, for which I thank Armenpress," said Zhanna Andreasyan.

The Minister is confident that these enhancements will strengthen the 100-year-old agency's place among modern media outlets.

Suren Safaryan, the president of the Artists' Union, welcomed the attendees and said that Armenpress was able to present a great story dedicated to the Republic of Armenia as a result of many years of hard work.

"I greatly value the fact that the agency not only documents political events over more than a hundred years but also our cultural life, famous masters, and artists. It has captured various events and brings them to our present day," he said.

Director of Armenpress, Narine Nazaryan, considered the opening of the exhibition a significant day for the Agency and thanked the attendees for being with Armenpress at the beautiful event.

"Why do I call it beautiful? Because today we are handing over to the public what belongs to them, as it is a part of their history, their past, their values. Armenpress has been the child of the Armenian people for more than a century and is responsible for preserving the memory of the people, documenting the most important events not only with pen and words but also with photographs, which are sometimes more eloquent, more expressive, and more colorful," she said.

Established in December 1959, the specialized photo service of the agency quickly became one of the main suppliers of photo news for both Armenian and foreign media.

"More than ninety photographs presented prove that the Armenpress camera has missed nothing: these images bring to life in our minds events we have always heard of, read about, and each of us has formed our own perceptions of these events. Today's exhibition allows us to mentally transport ourselves to those times.

"Armenpress" has more than one million photos at its disposal. The digital age allows us to save dozens of photo materials created daily in our archives instantly, with correct captions and tagging,’’ said Narine Nazaryan.

Touching upon the new Armenpress website, enriched with new tools, the agency's director noted that the day is significant in terms of Armenpress' mission: to deliver news related to Armenia, the Armenian people, and important regional developments to the world as quickly as possible. This includes reaching a wide audience in multiple languages so that the world can understand them better.

"Having a website equipped with new, rapid, and diverse digital solutions is a necessity of our time, where solutions driven by artificial intelligence cannot be overlooked," she said, adding that the Agency strives to serve as many people as possible, both Armenians and foreigners.

"Our aim is to transfer today's achievements to future generations and ensure that today's lessons wil remain instructive in the years to come. This aligns with our core mission: to document, inform, and preserve," concluded Narine Nazaryan, wishing everyone a pleasant evening.

The exhibition will be open until July 4.
