Civil Contract party yet to discuss possible coalition for Yerevan City Council

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 18, ARMENPRESS. The ruling Civil Contract Party hasn’t yet discussed forming a possible coalition with other parties that have won seats in the Yerevan City Council, a party official told ARMENPRESS.

“The leadership of the party hasn’t yet held a discussion. At this moment, I can’t say anything concrete,” said Armen Galjyan, the head of the My Step faction at the outgoing Yerevan City Council.

My Step faction is formed by the Civil Contract party.

The September 17 Yerevan City Council election was marked by record-low voter turnout. Only 234,553 (28,46%) of the 824,250 eligible voters cast their ballots. Civil Contract Party garnered 32,57% of votes, followed by National Progress Party – 18,89%, Mother Armenia bloc – 15,43%, Republic Party (Hanrapetutyun) – 11,32% and Public Voice Party - 9,68%. The other candidates running for office did not garner enough votes to win seats in the city council.

None of the candidates was able to take over 50% of votes which means that they will most likely have to form coalitions to be able to install a mayor.
