Yerevan mayoral race: Pre-election survey shows Avinyan in the lead

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 15, ARMENPRESS. According to a survey conducted by MPG, a full member of Gallup International Association in Armenia, 22,5% of respondents in Yerevan have said they would vote for Civil Contract party (mayoral candidate Tigran Avinyan) in the upcoming City Council elections. 13,8% of respondents said they'd vote for National Progress party (mayoral candidate Hayk Marutyan).

The survey was conducted by phone on September 12-13 among 802 people.

MPG LLC Director Aram Navasardyan presented the results of the survey on September 15.

Asked whom they’d vote for, 22,5% of respondents said for Tigran Avinyan, the current deputy mayor, while 14,3% said for Hayk Marutyan, the former mayor.

Another 7,8% said they’d vote for Andranik Tevanyan from the Mother Armenia bloc, 6,7% said Artak Galstyan from Public Voice bloc, 5,7% said Mane Tandilyan from Aprelu Yerkir party.

5,2% of the respondents said they’d vote for Artak Zeynalyan from the Republic party, 3,8% supports Davit Khajakyan from Bright Armenia party and 3,6% said they’d vote for Viktor Mnatsakanyan from the Victory Party.

Other candidates garnered from 1% up to 2,3% support in the survey.

Citizens of Yerevan will head to the polls on September 17 to elect a City Council, which will then elect a mayor.
