ICRC facilitates transfer of six patients from blockaded Artsakh to Armenia

YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 4, ARMENPRESS. The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) facilitated the transfer of another six patients from blockaded Artsakh (Nagorno Karabakh) to Armenia for treatment, ICRC Armenia communications manager Zara Amatuni told ARMENPRESS.

The blockade of Artsakh began on 12 December 2022 when Azerbaijan closed the Lachin corridor, the only road connecting Artsakh with Armenia. The blockade caused a humanitarian crisis. Shortages of essentials such as food, fuel and medicine prompted authorities to introduce a rationing system. Hospitals keep planned surgeries on hold and the ICRC has been facilitating the transfer of seriously-ill patients to Armenia for treatment.
