YEREVAN, JANUARY 19, ARMENPRESS. Colonel Garegin Poghosyan, a 44-Day War veteran and National Hero of Armenia title recipient, has been appointed as the new commander of the 2nd Army Corps.

The decree on his appointment was signed by President Vahagn Khachaturyan, at the advice of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

Colonel Garegin Poghosyan received the National Hero of Armenia title during the 44-Day-War - on October 22, 2020.

Poghosyan’s predecessor Major-General Vahram Grigoryan was sacked on January 19 along with several other high ranking military officials after a negligent use of gasoline at a barracks in the Azat village caused a fatal fire claiming the lives of 15 servicemen. The military base where the fire took place is under the jurisdiction of the 2nd Army Corps.
