Jermuk ropeway set for reopening after Azeri bombardment

YEREVAN, DECEMBER 20, ARMENPRESS. The ropeway in the resort town of Jermuk which was heavily damaged during the Azerbaijani attack on Armenia in September has been fully restored and will be opened for visitors during the holidays.

The administration of the ropeway told ARMENPRESS that they will be back to work on December 22.

The nearby cafes and leisure areas, which were also damaged from the bombardment, were also renovated.

Jermuk First Deputy Mayor Vardan Sargsyan said that one health spa suffered damages during the bombardment. The renovation is partially completed.

Tourism Committee Vice President Susanna Hakobyan said that the September 13 Azeri aggression negatively impacted tourism, namely the stop or drastic decreased tourism flow to Syunik and Vayots Dzor provinces led to numerous problems for hotel businesses.

More than 30 hotels reported booking cancellations.

The Ministry of Economy took action to support the businesses and attract tourists and the plan will be presented to the Prime Minister’s Office for approval.

Hakobyan said that local media should also work in these provinces to show that it is safe for visitors.

She added that all hotels are working normally in Vayots Dzor and Syunik and are ready to receive guests.
