The Forbidden City of China

BEIJING, SEPTEMBER 22, ARMENPRESS. The world’s largest palace complex – the Forbidden City – is located in the heart of China’s capital Beijing. It’s a city in the heart of a city.

The Forbidden City has 9999 rooms. It’s a palace, but more looks like a city with all its infrastructure and size. There are gardens, temples and a number of other buildings inside the palace complex.

The Palace Museum is inside the Forbidden City.

The Forbidden City has been built 600 years ago and has served as the home of Chinese emperors and their households. The complex covers 720,000 square meters.

The palace is in UNESCO’s World Heritage list.

The city has three gates, the last one of which is called Gate of Heavenly Purity.
