Armenian Embassy focuses on incident between Armenians and Azerbaijanis in Lvov

YEREVAN, MAY 18, ARMENPRESS. Ambassador of Armenia to Ukraine H.E. Andranik Manukyan says the incident between Armenians and Azerbaijanis in Lvov is in the focus of the Embassy.

He said he has applied to the Ukrainian MFA and other relevant structures demanding clarifications and bringing the perpetrators to responsibility.

“This was the European Championship, the Azerbaijanis even hit the President of the Federation with sticks”, he said.

He noted that the Azerbaijani delegation has apologized to the Armenian team in the airport, on their way back.

During the May 12-15 European Kung-Fu Championship in Lvov, Ukraine, the Azerbaijani team entered the ring and attacked the athlete from Nagorno Karabakh, who was winning the bout. The Azerbaijani athletes attacked the Armenian team with sticks. They even hit the President of the Kung-Fu Federation of Europe, Nikolay Matulyovski, who tried to shield the Nagorno Karabakhi athlete. Police officers interfered and ended the incident.

The Azerbaijani team has been disqualified.
