Mick Jagger's son prefers the “Kinks” to the “Rolling Stones”

Mick Jagger's son prefers the “Kinks” to the “Rolling Stones”

YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 9, ARMENPRESS. World-known Rolling Stones music band’s lead singer Mick Jagger’s son James Jagger says he prefers The Kinks to the Rolling Stones. The 30-year-old has admitted he rates the music of Ray Davies – whose hits include Lola, Waterloo Sunset and You Really Got Me – over his father’s output, “Armenpress” reports citing Dailymail website.

He only picks the Stones if it’s a toss up between them and Liverpudlian rivals The Beatles. “When people ask me if I prefer the Rolling Stones or the Beatles, then I will always say the Rolling Stones,” he said. “But if someone asks if I prefer the Rolling Stones or The Kinks, I’d choose The Kinks.”

The actor’s preferences were revealed in an interview ahead of the TV series Vinyl – produced by Jagger senior, 72 – in which he plays a punk rocker in 1970s New York.

His father’s wild rock days provided plenty of inspiration for the role, even though learning details about his lifestyle came as a shock. ‘Growing up I certainly wasn’t informed of his … hijinks … throughout the 70s,’ he told the Independent. “You don’t want to know those things about your parents when you’re a kid. But I can ask him about those things now.”

He said he was not exposed to his father’s drug-taking despite rumours he found Jagger passed out on a sofa at home.

“I wasn’t exposed to lots of junkies,’ he said. ‘And I don’t think anything was a cautionary tale – when you’re growing up and you see all that stuff, it’s exciting. So, it was actually more an attractive proposition.”

James grew up in Richmond, south-west London, with Jagger, mother Jerry Hall, and siblings Lizzie, 31, Georgia May, 24, and Gabriel, 18. "I absolutely adore my dad and am incredibly proud of all his achievements, and I’m very proud to be his son," he said.

“But at times you wish you had more anonymity. Did I always want to be an actor? No. I wanted to be a marine biologist at one point. Swimming with dolphins really appealed for a couple of years.”
