Armenia to expand ties with world in 2016: Flights to Rome and Doha are scheduled

YEREVAN, NOVEMEBER 24, ARMENPRESS. Armenia expands ties with the world in the frames of open sky policy including flights to new directions. It is planned to launch Doha-Yerevan flights by Qatar Airways since January 2016. Besides, the option of carrying out Yerevan-Rome flights is discussed. Executive directorof theArmenianDevelopmentFund Arman Khachatryaninformed “Armenpress” about this. According to him, Armenia aviation market is attractive to various companies, otherwise new Air Companies would not appear here. Armenia has participated in three international aviation exhibitions during the current year which were directed to the contribution of open sky policy. I am glad to say that as the result of negotiations we had Greek “Aegean Airlines” company’s entrance to Armenia in 2015. LOT Polish Airlines returns to the market since January 1 and “Czech Airlines” company already launched its flights since December 16,” Arman Khachatryan said.

Referring to the frequent question on the absence of a national carrier and to criticism over open sky policy, Arman Khachatryan noticed that we can conclude from our previous experience that the national carrier cannot resolve the problems facing Armenia. “There were not so much affordable prices as it is now when having a national carrier and it is important for tourists to have affordable prices to any destination,” the interlocutor emphasized adding that according to official data Ticket prices were dropped by 10%, in some directions – up to 50%, for instance Yerevan-Moscow flights.
