Art of Management in the eyes of leading business trainer Vladimir Tarasov

Art of Management in the eyes of leading business trainer Vladimir Tarasov

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 8, ARMENPRESS. Founder and head of Tallinn School of Managers, leading business trainer Vladimir Tarasov will visit Armenia on September 17-18 to hold his “The art of management” seminar.

He is also Russia’s and former Soviet Union’s states’ leading expert in management sector based on SEREPUTATION company’s rating. He is an author of a number of books and publications.

“Armenpress” talked with Vladimir Tarasov on a variety of features of business management and training culture in the region.

-Vladimir, what is your opinion on management features of companies in Russia and the CIS region and the contemporary management?

-A difficult question. I must collect all impressions and analyze them. But if we just talk about my recent impressions I will say they are heavy and are mainly associated with large business. First of all, inefficiency prevails in such companies. The reason is the system where there are many people: everyone works in his/her small part, and it is quite easy to stay unnoticed. I mean if someone doesn’t work well, it is not immediately noticeable. And since the employees are rapidly changed, it appears that older bad workers are replaced by new ones. Moreover, the heads of the companies are not aware how that people communicate with the clients or colleagues. Here there is a lot of work to do to know how the employees in reality cooperate with the colleagues and clients. In small companies an employee does almost everything, whereas in large ones only certain functions. As a result of poor internal communication and competition a defective communication appears which affects the company’s overall work results.

-It is over 30 years you are holding business-trainings. A number of generations of entrepreneurs have gone through your school. Can you specify the characteristics of that generation? How people dealing with business management change over time, and what features they have now?

-In the second half of the 80s of the last century, the entrepreneurs were ordinary Soviet leaders who wanted to acquire knowledge, but at the same time they were trying to stay away from the “questionable ideological shades” of that knowledge. Then new ones came who actively entered the market economy due to our School as well. In the 90s various bright individuals entered the School. Despite the general level of education is not enough, but those coming in this millennium are more educated, closer to technologies, more predictable and more similar to one another. But they will be replaced by a small robotic “digital” generation soon…

-How is it that people who spend months or even years for the traditional forms of education, find that one or two-day training can be useful and applicable? What makes a good business-training productive, what is the secret?

-The secret is simple. In traditional forms the trainers’ motivation is much more associated with establishing ties with the employer, but in case of short business–trainings where the audience pays for its education, the motivation is directly linked with the market.

-Your methods have well accepted in the West. According to you, what is their uniqueness and originality?

-The uniqueness of our methods is that they make the audience not to play, not to act the role of manager, but rather to directly manage each other in case of the lack of time and conflict of interests.
