International Day of Yoga to be celebrated in Armenia

YEREVAN, JUNE 14, ARMENPRESS. Numerous countries throughout the world will celebrate June 21 as the International Day of Yoga. Armenia for the second time celebrates this event and a number of ceremonies will be held on the occasion of the Yoga Day, Ambassador of India to Armenia Yogeshwar Sangwan said during the briefing.

“Thanks to the active works of the Indian Embassy in our country, it is possible to see how beautiful and useful the yoga is. The UN declared yoga as one of the most important components of the human life. Yoga has an old history the major goal of which is to reach harmony”, “Armenpress” reports, Deputy Minister of Culture of Armenia Nerses Ter-Vardanyan said.

Acting the UN Resident Coordinator in Armenia Christoph Bierwirth said the UN, declaring the International Day of Yoga, was facilitated by the fact that yoga is very useful and it is widespread throughout the world. Yoga gives people an opportunity to achieve harmony with the environment, and the number of people interested with yoga is gradually increasing.

Rector of Yerevan State Medical University, Professor Mikayel Narimanyan stated: “Yoga is both a culture, and a form of physical exercise. Everything is done in yoga taking under the control the respiratory function, which enables a person to achieve balance and harmony. Yoga can be very useful from the psychophysical point of view”. Narimanyan also added that currently 900 Indian students study in Yerevan State Medical University, and they will also take part in the ceremonies dedicated to the International Day of Yoga.

The UN declared June 21 as the International Day of Yoga in 2014.
