Social network users defend Iveta Mukuchyan raising NKR flag

YEREVAN, MAY 12, ARMENPRESS. The warning of the European Broadcasting Union on the raising of NKR flag by Armenian participant Iveta Mukuchyan in the “Eurovision-2016” song contest created a discontent and anger among many foreign users. As “Armenpress” reports, many of them blamed the EBU for guiding by double standards.

“She simply showed a flag then made a statement about peace.... Why are people making such a fuss about that?! It's ridiculous and hypocrit... Especially from Azerbaidjan...”, Gauthier Descamps says.

Another user Lupcho Nechovski believes this should not result in something more than a mere fine, like EBU did with the case in 2009 when 43 citizens of Azerbaijan were interrogated and under serious political and psychological pressure for voting for Armenia in ESC. “Despite the matter being immensely serious, EBU only got 3,000 euro from iTV. EBU is constantly demonstrating double standards towards different EBU members, and I believe they have lost the credibility to organize any international event long ago. Shame on You, EBU!”, she writes.

Vanessa Morgan, another user, writes: “Azerbaijan should worry about its human rights issues within its actual borders instead of worrying about the flag of a country outside of its borders”.

“So the flag of Wales is o'kay, but the flag of Nagorny Karabkh isn't? You are either tolerant or not. And at the moment, dear EBU, you are just hypocrites”, Joanna Krystyna Radosz writes.

Another user Lukas Richard Sandford says so Azerbaijan interrogate those who voted for Armenia and get a meagre fine but Armenia is facing 'sanctions'!

Samuel Muránsky  also recalled Azerbaijani experience in arresting people for their vote for Armenia.

Bravo Armenia, respect! Let everyone say what they want. Bravo Iveta, she is too honest”, Elena Gratchenko writes.

“Be free with your flag! Iveta has the best performance of this year. Armenia will be the winner!” Vicente Fernández writes.

The EBU officially warned Armenian Public Broadcaster for raisingof the Nagorno-Karabakh flag in the Green Room by Iveta Mukuchyan during the live transmission of the first Semi Final on 10 May and considers the flag's appearance in the transmission harmful to the Eurovision Song Contest brand. The Reference Group wishes to point out that any further breach of the Rules of the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest could lead to disqualification from this year's event or any successive editions. The Reference Group has decided to sanction Armenian broadcaster, AMPTV, in accordance with the Rules. The nature of the sanction will be determined, at the latest, by the next Reference Group meeting in June.
