Catherine Ashton visits Armenian Cathedral in New Julfa

YEREVAN, MARCH 11, ARMENPRESS. The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton visited St. All Saviour's Armenian Cathedral in New Julfa on March 10. As reports “Armenpress” citing the official website of the Prelacy of New Julfa, the dean of the Shahin Shahr community Archimandrite Anania Gujanian, along with the representatives of the parliament, diocesan, religious and other bodies, welcomed the delegation led by the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton and the Prelate of the Armenian Diocese of Isfahan Bishop Babgen Charian.
The members of the delegation first paid a visit to 350-year old St. Joseph of Arimathea Church of the All Saviour's Cathedral, which is famous for its spectacular frescos. “Komitas” choir performed hymns conducted by Armen Amirkhanian. The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton and the other members of the delegation listened to the hymns and watched the picturesque frescos of the church, which introduce the whole history of the Old and New Testaments, commandments of the Church, the passions of St. Gregory the Illuminator, as well as Paradise and Hell.
