YEREVAN, OCTOBER 18, ARMENPRESS:

RA Permanent Representative to the Council of Europe Armen Papikyan handed today his credentials to Thorbjørn Jagland, Secretary General of the Council of Europe.

Press service of Armenian Foreign Affairs Ministry told Armenpress that during the conversation, which followed the official ceremony, Armen Papikyan briefly presented the process running in Armenia and in that context attached importance to Armenia-Council of Europe cooperation from the viewpoint of confirmation and implementation of distinct programs. Referring to the reforms running at the Council of Europe, Ambassador Papikyan noted that Armenia, as previously, is ready to assist the Secretary General in their implementation.

Thorbjørn Jagland, welcoming the newly-appointed permanent representative of Armenia, said that Armenia is actively involved in the processes of the Council of Europe and noted with gratification that Armenia’s perception of CU reforms and further development of Armenia-CU cooperation coincides with his approaches and perceptions. He also stressed that the goal of the organization is to use the accumulated experimental potential for needs of the member states.

During the meeting the current issues and prospects of development of cooperation between other international organizations and the Council of Europe were discussed.
