Russia proposes interdepartmental discussions with Armenia to dispel concerns -
Zakharova

YEREVAN, MARCH 6, ARMENPRESS. The official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova, stated that Armenia had been offered to hold inter-departmental discussions aimed at dispelling the existing concerns.

Referring to the statements of the highest authorities of Armenia about the freezing of Armenia's participation in the CSTO activities, Zakharova noted that Armenia continued its presidency in the EAEU structure.

“The EAEU is an international organization for economic integration where issues regarding sustainable economic development and the well-being of citizens of member countries are addressed. Political matters are not discussed on this platform; relations between countries are regulated within the context of mutual benefit and equality. This cooperation undoubtedly yields positive results, including for Armenia, which has been a leader in the Union in several economic indicators over the past few years. And these opportunities are provided by the common market of the Union," said Zakharova.

Speaking about the developing relations between Armenia and the European Union, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry noted that Armenia should avoid the danger of becoming a new victim of the West.

"Kyiv was also promised a reliable future, but they have abandoned it. I think that this should not be repeated in the case of Armenia, as Armenia has gone through a difficult historical path, which includes genocide, a struggle for its own sovereignty and culture, and complex regional disputes. Armenia is our ally, we have lasting historical ties with that country and its people, and that is why we wish Armenia peace, stability and prosperity. As you know, the stability of the region also hinges on this," said Zakharova, asserting that the European Union is not a reliable partner and considers Armenia as an entry point to the region at any cost.
