Toivo Klaar considers signing peace treaty between Azerbaijan and Armenia realistic in
near future

YEREVAN, MARCH 1, ARMENPRESS. The signing of a peace treaty between Azerbaijan and Armenia is realistic in the near future; all elements are on the table. It is a matter of political will and relates to making compromises.

Toivo Klaar, the European Union (EU) Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the Crisis in Georgia, on Friday stated this at the Antalya Diplomacy Forum in Turkey.

The time has come to sign a peace treaty and make a compromise. The peace treaty between Azerbaijan and Armenia will naturally be signed between the two countries, and any external mediator can simply support the issue. That's what we're trying to do.

Klaar said,  noting that achieving a stable settlement of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia is crucial, as it will lay the foundation for the prosperity of the entire South Caucasus region.

“I think that ensuring security and stability in the South Caucasus is a vital necessity for all countries in the region, so we offer Azerbaijan and Armenia different options for resolving the situation. Peace does not imply the absence of war but requires a comprehensive settlement that must be understood by all parties,” concluded Klaar.
