Regardless of where the negotiations are proceeding with Azerbaijan, Armenia is always defending its principles – ensuring peace in the region, protection of the security of Armenia’s borders, sovereignty and territorial integrity, and the protection of the rights and security of the Armenians in Nagorno Karabakh, the Chair of the Parliamentary Foreign Affairs Committee, MP Sargis Khandanyan told reporters when asked on the ongoing Armenia-Azerbaijan foreign ministerial talks in Washington D.C.

Speaking on Moscow’s recent statement on the ongoing talks, when the Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said that developments between the sides must be based on the trilateral statements signed with Russia, Khandanyan said that the 9 November 2020 statement is indeed highly important. “And it is highly important for the terms stipulated in it to be maintained. But the question here is why Mr. Peskov doesn’t tell us why Russia isn’t guaranteeing the terms stipulated in the 9 November trilateral statement, specifically unimpeded passage along the Lachin Corridor, return of prisoners of war and other issues,” Khandanyan said.
