Speaker of Parliament skeptical over Lavrov’s claim that CSTO mission can be deployed within one or two days

Speaker of Parliament skeptical over Lavrov’s claim that CSTO mission can be deployed
within one or two days

YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 7, ARMENPRESS. Speaker of Parliament Alen Simonyan said he is not sure that if there were an issue of deploying the CSTO mission to the border of Armenia and Azerbaijan some member of the CSTO wouldn’t veto the decision.

Simonyan made the remarks at a press briefing, speaking about Russian FM Sergey Lavrov’s statement that a CSTO mission can be deployed to Armenia-Azerbaijan border in “one or two days” if greenlighted by Yerevan.

“I am not sure that possibility exists, because as it was mentioned in the same interview, there are many different countries in that organization that have their interests. And I am not sure that some of them won’t veto it. But I am unaware of details because we haven’t been told,” Simonyan said.

Simonyan reminded that a leader of a CSTO member state has expressed his opinion about Azerbaijan and its president Aliyev. “I don’t know what has changed now. What we wanted and demanded was merely a clear political assessment. They didn’t even make a clear political assessment. I am very skeptical,” Simonyan said.

Simonyan said that the “Khovayev document” is not being mentioned. Simonyan said that Russia, in person of the Russian special envoy Igor Khovayev, presented an option for normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, and Armenia agreed to it. “But then, why our allies did not hold on to this very option and are now troubled by the subsequent Prague agreement, I think these questions must be asked and this must be talked about,” Simonyan said.
