ARMENPRESS joins Tolerance Charter for the Media at Abu Dhabi congress

ABU DHABI, NOVEMBER 16, ARMENPRESS. ARMENPRESS News Agency has joined the Tolerance Charter for the Media, an initiative launched during the Global Media Congress in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

The Global Media Congress opened November 15.

The congress, organized by ADNEC Group in partnership with the Emirates News Agency (WAM), is held under the patronage of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Presidential Court Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The three-day event is taking place under the theme “Shaping the Future of the Media Industry”.

ARMENPRESS has joined the congress as a media partner and is participating alongside more than 1,200 media sector pioneers, specialists, and influencers from six continents, with more than 30 debates and workshops featuring more than 162 globally renowned speakers.

The congress featured a session on media and tolerance on November 16 – the International Day for Tolerance.

By joining the Tolerance Charter for the Media, news agencies reaffirm their readiness to spread the message of tolerance.

Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence , said in his speech that the honest and transparent activity of the media is the most realistic option for any outlet to gain the audience’s trust.

“We must fight against extremism and hate, it is necessary to spread the values of love and brotherhood in the world,” he added.

Media outlets have a major role in advancing local and international communities and promoting the values of tolerance and human fraternity, he further added.

“As you gather at the Global Media Congress, you have a duty and responsibility to help readers and listeners learn about other cultures and be open to them, as well as to convince them that pluralism and diversity are sources of strength for human communities. You have a duty to work with everyone, whether children, the youth, families, religious people, business people, schools, universities or civil society organizations, so they can perform their allocated roles,” Sheikh Nahyan said. The duty of media outlets is to ensure openness to global experiences, always be informed and continue their ongoing development, he affirmed.

“You must always recognize the key role of tolerance in advancing media outlets, and set an example of diversity, pluralism, integrity and further learning,” he added.
