Russia says steps underway to stabilize Armenia-Azerbaijan border situation

YEREVAN, SEPTEMER 14, ARMENPRESS. Russia is taking steps in the direction of stabilizing the situation at the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, a Russian foreign ministry official told RIA Novosti.

“We are in close contacts with Baku and Yerevan,” Denis Gonchar, Head of the 4th Department of CIS countries at the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

“We are taking necessary steps to contribute to a maximally swift resolution of the situation,” he said.

Gonchar accused the European Union in attempting to sideline Russia from the South Caucasus, stressing that the EU is obviously trying to interfere in Russia’s trilateral works with Armenia and Azerbaijan. “It is noteworthy that Brussels became active in the South Caucasus on the backdrop of the West’s sanctions against Russia and the suspension of join work in the OSCE Minsk Group,” Gonchar said.
