Several suspects have been arrested in an ongoing criminal investigation into alleged vote-buying involving the Strong Armenia party, according to the Anti-Corruption Committee.
The law enforcement body said in a press release that a candidate for parliament representing the Strong Armenia bloc in the June 7 elections, along with other accomplices, had handed out bribes to a number of voters across the Vayots Dzor and Shirak regions in exchange for votes for the Strong Armenia bloc, which is led by business tycoon Samvel Karapetyan.
The Anti-Corruption Committee did not name the parliamentary candidate involved. It released an audio recording obtained during surveillance, allegedly capturing a conversation between suspects discussing the vote-buying scheme.
