Opposition faction head expects new Commission will greatly contribute to prevention of corruption

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 26, ARMENPRESS. Head of the Bright Armenia faction of the Parliament Edmon Marukyan expects that the new Corruption Prevention Commission will have a great contribution to the prevention of corruption in Armenia.

“A lot depends on this first staff of the Commission as this is the staff that is going to contribute to forming the base of the Commission. The work will continue based on the base they put because the future members can have a less impact on changing the already put basis. This Commission greatly differs from the previous commission of ethics, as it has large powers. I expect that it will have a great contribution to the prevention of corruption”, he said at a press conference in the Parliament.

The first session of the Corruption Prevention Commission was held today. During the session Haykuhi Harutyunyan has been elected today as Chair of the Corruption Prevention Commission.

Her candidacy has been nominated by the Bright Armenia faction of the Parliament.

Harutyunyan was elected with majority of votes.

There were two candidates nominated for the position – Haykuhi Harutyunyan from the Bright Armenia faction and Edgar Shatiryan from the ruling My Step faction.

The candidates presented their approaches on the Corruption Prevention Commission. Both stated that regardless of who will be elected as Chair, the team and joint work are the most important.
