Penitentiary, Probation Services give negative conclusions on Nairi Hunanyan’s early release

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 28, ARMENPRESS. The Penitentiary and Probation Services of Armenia issued negative conclusions regarding the early release of Nairi Hunanyan, the man who led the attack on the Armenian Parliament on October 27, 1999, from prison, the justice ministry told Armenpress.

Given that the two services issued negative opinions, the administration of the correctional facility on October 28 decided not to submit to the court the issue of Hunanyan’s parole or the mitigation of the remaining part of the sentence. The decision can be appealed within ten days after its receipt.

If the decision of the administration is not appealed, the issue can be re-examined after a year and a half if the prisoner submits an application no later than 40 days before the deadline. In case when the administration’s decision is appealed, if the court rejects parole, the issue can be re-examined three years after the judicial act enters into force if the prisoner submits an application no later than 40 days before the deadline.

Nairi Hunanyan, who is serving a life-sentence since being convicted in 2003, has applied for parole on October 22.
