Constitutional Court likely to deliver verdict over Kocharyan’s arrest September 4

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 3, ARMENPRESS. The Constitutional Court will likely deliver its verdict about ex-President Robert Kocharyan’s application on September 4th.

Kocharyan, currently jailed in pre-trial detention on charges of “overthrowing constitutional order” in the 2008 Yerevan unrest case, argues in an application to the Constitutional Court that his re-arrest was unconstitutional. He has requested the Constitutional Court to assess the constitutionality of a court's overruling of a lower court's earlier decision on setting him free.

The Constitutional Court is examining the application since 11:00 September 3.

Chief of Staff of the Constitutional Court Edgar Ghazaryan told reporters they will issue an update at least an hour before the ruling is made.
