Suspect in pre-trial detention found hanged in jail cell

YEREVAN, AUGUST 28, ARMENPRESS. An indicted suspect awaiting trial in pre-trial detention has been found hanged in his cell early Wednesday morning, the Department of Corrections said.

31-year-old Artur Sayunts was placed under pre-trial detention since March 2019 and was kept in solitary confinement at the Goris Correctional Facility in Goris, Syunik Province. His body was found hanged from bed sheets attached to the bars of his cell window.

The suspect was charged with drug trafficking.

Authorities said they’ve launched an investigation into the incident.
