YEREVAN, MARCH 4, ARMENPRESS. Speaker of Parliament of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan on March 4 received Director General of Human Rights and Rule of Law of the Council of Europe Christos Giakoumopoulos, the Parliament told Armenpress.
At the meeting the Speaker said Armenia attaches great importance to the cooperation with the Council of Europe, as well as the organization’s continuous support to the ongoing democratic processes in the country. The Speaker added that there is an active cooperation with the CoE Armenia Office.
Ararat Mirzoyan emphasized that during these years Armenia has constantly implemented the commitments assumed by the membership to the CoE and has recorded a major progress on this direction also thanks to the organization’s support.
The Speaker of Parliament added that Armenia has taken significant steps in human rights, democracy and rule of law as a result of the recent peaceful, velvet and democratic revolution. He assured that the new leadership of Armenia is consistent in the constant development and deepening of democracy.
Christos Giakoumopoulos thanked for the reception and highlighted the long-term productive partnership and joint programs with Armenia.
He stated that there is a significant progress in the field of human rights in Armenia and expressed readiness to cooperate and assist on the path of implementation of reforms.
As for the programs carried out within the framework of the Armenia-CoE Action Plan, as well as the recorded results, the Speaker of Parliament reaffirmed that Armenia will be consistent in the complete implementation of the Second Action Plan, and at this stage quite comprehensive and deep reforms are planned to be implemented.
