Iranian MPs ask President Rouhani for FM Zarif to remain in office

YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 26, ARMENPRESS. Most of the Iranian MPs have signed a letter asking President Hassan Rouhani to keep Mohammad Javad Zarifin the position of the foreign minister, IRNA reports.

Earlier it was reported that the Iranian Parliament will review the resignation of the foreign minister.

Foreign minister of Iran Mohammad Javad Zarifhas announced his resignation on his Instagram account.

“Many thanks forthe generosity ofthe dear and brave people ofIran and its authorities overthe past67 months. I sincerely apologize forthe inability tocontinue the service and forall the shortcomings duringthe service. Be happy and worthy”, Zarif wrote.

According toReuters, citing Tasnim news agency, some local sources familiar withthe matter have confirmed Zarif's resignation, however, it was not immediately clear whether Iranian President Hassan Rouhani would accept it.

Zarif is serving as the foreign minister of Iran since August, 2013.
