5 arrested in connection with fatal shootout in Armenian town

YEREVAN, JANUARY 31, ARMENPRESS. 4 more people have been arrested during the ongoing investigation into the January 29 shootout in the town of Abovyan, Sona Truzyan, adviser to the Investigative Committee president told ARMENPRESS. Earlier authorities said that 1 person has been placed under arrest.

“Active investigative actions continue as part of the investigation to determine all circumstances surrounding the armed incident,” she said.

According to Truzyan, currently 6 people are under investigation, 5 of whom as suspects.

One of the suspects, a 24 year old man, has been charged with aggravated misdemeanor, and the investigator has requested a court to issue an arrest warrant.

1 person has been killed and 7 others were wounded in a shootout outside a restaurant in the town of Abovyan on January 29.

The city’s police commissioner, as well as the province’s head of police, have been sacked over the incident.
