Plans to cut number of ministries aim at higher efficiency of public administration, reducing bureaucracy - PM

YEREVAN, JANUARY 29, ARMENPRESS. PM Nikol Pashinyan has said that the proposed structural changes in the Armenian government are aimed at increasing the efficiency of public administration.

“It is clear that the current structure isn’t quite effective in terms of functioning,” he said in an interview with the Russian RBK TV. “Clear procedures are important for investments. These issues are closely interrelated. The more ministries exist the more procedures are required, and many obstacles emerge for businesses,” the PM said.

He reaffirmed that the number of ministries in the Armenian government will be reduced.

“We hope that with this the unnecessary and useless quantity of procedures will be reduced and the procedures that the state requires and that are truly useful will remain,” he said.

Proposed changes in the structure of the government envisage having 12 ministries instead of the current 17.

Several ministries are planned to be merged, while some existing ones will be downgraded to departments under other ministries.
