Angelina Jolie urges UNSC to end Syrian crisis

YEREVAN, JANUARY 30, ARMENPRESS. Hollywood star and UN goodwill ambassador Angelina Jolie urged the UN Security Council to “find a way” to solve the Syrian crisis, Sputnik News reports.

During her fifth trip toZaatari camp inJordan, Angelina Jolie said that “humanitarian aid is not a long-term solution” forthe Syrian crisis.

“It is heartbreaking toreturn toJordan and witness the levels ofhardship and trauma amongSyrian refugees asthis war enters its eighth year,"Joliesaid.

"A viable political settlement is the only way tocreate the conditions forSyrians tobe able toreturn totheir homes, toend the human suffering and the strain onhost countries," she added.

According toJolie, the UNHCR’s response forthe Syria conflict was "only 50 percent funded" last year and only seven percent sincethe start of2018.

“It is soul-destroying" forSyrian refugees "to be made this dependent," Jolie said.

"So I would urge the Security Council members tocome tothe region, tovisit the camps and the urban refugees, and find a way tofinally bring the full weight ofthe UN and international community tobear tosolve this conflict," she told reporters.
