YEREVAN, DECEMBER 20, ARMENPRESS. The Karabakh conflict has nothing to do with the religion, Armen Ashotyan, chairman of the Armenian parliamentary standing committee on foreign affairs, said during the 17th session of the EU-Armenia parliamentary cooperation committee, stating that Azerbaijan tries to present the conflict as a geopolitical or religious conflict, reports Armenpress.
“Imagine how it would be dangerous if the Karabakh conflict was a religious conflict taking into account the uplift of the Islamic State. This will raise the hell by another degree. Such misunderstanding should be prevented. It would be very dangerous if the civilized worldallows Ilham Aliyev to present this conflict as a religious conflict”, he said.
He stated that thousands of people live in Artsakh who must enjoy the UN fundamental rights.
“I don’t talk about the political rights. They enjoy these rights. We should put more emphasis on the necessity to engage them in cultural, educational, environmental and other programs as they are deprived from this. This status quo doesn’t enable the Artsakh people to participate for instance in the EU-funded projects. The Artsakh youth is deprived from the right to use Erasmus program”, Ashotyan said.
