YEREVAN, DECEMBER 15, ARMENPRESS. The delegation led by the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia Eduard Sharmazanov, comprised ofMPs Samvel Farmanyan and Suren Manukyan met with the Deputy Speaker of the Saeima of Latvia Inese Lībiņa-Egnere.
As ARMENPRESS was informed from the press service of the parliament of Armenia, during the meeting the sides highlighted the further development and deepening of the Armenian-Latvian friendly relations and the activation of the mutual visits.
The Deputy Speaker of the Armenian parliament touched upon the international recognition of the Armenian Genocide and the denial policy of Turkey, noting that after 100 years the authorities of Turkey continue to pursue the deconstructive and denial policy, keeps under blockade Armenia which is inadmissible. Eduard Sharmazanov expressed hope that Latvia bearing democratic values and being an EU member would recognize and condemn the Armenian Genocide.
Talking about the Armenia-EU Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement, Sharmazanov expressed conviction that Armenia could be a reliable bridge between the EEU and EU member countries. He expressed hope that the parliament of Latvia would ratify the document as quick as possible.
Talking about the Nagorno Karabakh problem settlement process, Eduard Sharmazanov touched upon the bellicose rhetoric and false campaign of Azerbaijan.“There are countries which fall into the trap of Azerbaijan's false campaign, and among is also Latvia. Some high ranking officials of Latviamake statements which do not emanate from the peaceful settlement of the problem. I call on you not to yield to Azerbaijani false anti-campaign and not to fall into their trap and not make any statements in Artsakh problem which contradict the official positions of the Minsk Group and the EU,” the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia noted.
The Deputy Speaker of the Saeima of Latvia Inese Lībiņa-Egnere noted that in the Artsakh issue they support the Minsk Group Co-Chairs’ efforts and the principles.
