European Parliament’s Turkey rapporteur urges to halt EU membership talks

YEREVAN, MAY 3, ARMENPRESS. Kati Piri, European Parliament’s rapporteur on Turkey, said opening a new chapter on negotiations between the EU and Turkey is out of question.

“If Turkey is really interested in accession, it is necessary for Ankara to show it”, Piri told Die Welt.

She said the EU doesn’t intend to be threatened by Turkey or any other country for membership.

“If they are willing to enter the EU, they are obliged to meet the criteria. However I absolutely don’t see this in Turkey. That’s why it is necessary for the talks to be suspended”, she said.
