Cellist Narek Hakhnazaryan to perform in London

YEREVAN, MARCH 11, ARMENPRESS. World renowned Armenian cellist Narek Hakhnazaryan will perform in London’s King’s Place on March 11, the official website of the venue reported.

Hakhnazaryan will perform with pianist Oxana Schevchenko, and will play Tchaikovsky,Khachaturian,Arutiunian,Khudoyan,Giovanni Sollimaand Rachmaninov.

Born in 1988, the Armenian cellist won the gold medal for cello at the 2011International Tchaikovsky Competition.

Hakhnazaryan was born and raised by his musician parents inYerevan,Armeniawhere he began studying cello at the age of six at theSayat Nova Music School. When he turned 11, he and his mother moved toMoscow, and he joined theMoscow Conservatoryin 2006.There, he took cello lessons along withAlexey Seleznyovand later received scholarships from theRostropovich Foundationand theRussian Performing Arts Fund. He received First Prize at the 2006Aram Khachaturian International Competitionin Armenia, and in 2008 won both the First Prize at theJohansen International Competitionfor Young String Players and First Prize at the International Auditions of theYoung Concert Artists, after which he made his debut at New York'sCarnegie Hall, and atKennedy Center, Washington, DC.

He was mentored byMstislav Rostropovich, and obtained an Artist Diploma after studying withLawrence Lesserat theNew England Conservatory. He was named a BBC New Generation Artist in 2014, and his performances are regularly broadcast on BBC Radio 3

Hakhnazaryan has performed with prestigious orchestras around the world, such asLondon Symphony Orchestra, as well as both theRotterdam PhilharmonicandMariinsky OrchestraunderValery Gergiev. He also performed with orchestras includingChicago Symphony OrchestraunderTon Koopman, where he stood in forYo-Yo Ma,and withSt. Luke's Orchestra, theDallas Symphony, theLos Angeles Philharmonic,La Scala,NHK Symphony Orchestra, theSeattle Symphony, theSeoul Philharmonic, and theNew Zealand Symphony Orchestra.

As a chamber musician, he has performed at theConcertgebouwin Amsterdam, Paris'sSalle Pleyel, London'sWigmore Hall, theKonzerthaus Berlin, theVienna Konzerthaus, Tokyo'sOji Hall,Carnegie Hall, and many other venues. He has also performed at a wide range of music festivals in various cities, such asLondon,Mecklenburg-Vorpommern,Tivoli,Mikkeli,Lucerne, andVerbier.
