Armenia’s Government seeks to produce maximally low-cost power

YEREVAN, JANUARY 12, ARMENPRESS. Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan assigned Ministers of Energy Infrastructures and Natural Resources, Economic Development and Investments to cooperate with the Public Services Regulatory Commission, examine and submit a proposal within three months on making necessary changes in “Development directions of Armenia’s energy system until 2036” program aiming at producing power at the lowest cost, reports “Armenpress”.

“Taking into account this, we attach importance to intensifying talks with the regional countries and using domestic opportunities, as well as expanding the opportunities of power trade with regional countries as a result of that”, the PM said at the Government session.

He said it is necessary to consider Armenia’s economic development trends, the tendencies of change in fuel prices in the global market, ongoing large-scale investments in the power system aimed at constructing new power capacities towards Iran and Georgia, as well as it is necessary to consider the necessity on developing renewable energy, strengthening Armenia’s energy independence, raising energy security, degree of reliability of energy system.

“The talk is about that we must have a program on time, by understanding what capacities we will need, what export opportunities we will have, and thus, we will have a concrete program on how we will move forward”, Karen Karapetyan said.
