Migrants protest at Greek Lesbos refugee camp, service offices set on fire

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 24, ARMENPRESS. Asylum Service employees were forced to leave their offices at Moria refugee camp on the Greek island of Lesbos, which were set on fire during the protest of refugees, according to local media, Sputnik News reports.

According tothe Athens News Agency, a large number ofmigrants, mostly fromPakistan, came outto protest againstdelays inthe examination ofasylum applications. Asylum Service employees were forced toleave their offices, which were set onfire duringthe protest.

The fire brigade is currently atthe hotspot trying toextinguish the flames, while the riot police has entered the camp inan attempt torestore order.

Around 60,000 refugees are estimated tobe stuck inGreece. The country is the main transit point toEurope forrefugees coming acrossthe Aegean Sea fromTurkey. Those who arrived afterMarch 20 are supposed tobe returned toTurkey aspart ofa deal betweenthe Brussels and Ankara.
