DPA: Merkel applauses Bundestag President for criticizing Erdoğan

YEREVAN, JUNE 9, ARMENPRESS. German Chancellor Angela Merkel publicly applauded Bundestag President Norbert Lammert who started the parliamentary debates on June 9 with criticizing Turkish President Tayyip Erdoğan, “Armenpress” reports DPA agency informs.

The following Lammert’s sentence deserved the applauses, “I thought it should be impossible to address criticism towards the democratically elected Bundestag MPs by democratically elected president in the 21st century for their Turkish origin and calling their blood dirty”.

The German Bundestag adopted the Armenian Genocide recognition resolution, which is entitled "Remembrance and commemoration of the genocide of Armenians and other Christian minorities in 1915 and 1916".

Only one MP voted against the adoption, and one abstained.

After the adoption of the resolution, Erdogan suggested that the 11 lawmakers should undergo blood tests, to see "what kind of Turks they are”, and later he called“perverse”one of Bundestag MPs with Turkish origin Cem Ozdemir.

Earlier Angela Merkel said she cannot understand the announcements and complaints of the Turkish side.
