13 thousand specialists and 450 companies are involved in IT sector of Armenia

YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 3, ARMENPRESS. Unprecedented growth has been recorded within the last few years in the sphere of information technology and innovation. The collaborative work of the government and the private sector gives positive results. “Armenpress” reports Minister of Economy of the Republic of Armenia Karen Chshmaritian told the journalists about this. In the words of the Minister, 450 companies and nearly 13 thousand specialists are involved in the sector with a total turnover of $550 million. The growth is 17%. Referring to the law adopted in 2015 giving privileges to IT start-ups, Karen Chshmaritian mentioned that 79 start-ups and 329 jobs have been established. 65 out of the mentioned companies have received certificates to make use of tax privileges.

The Minister highlighted deepening cooperation with “Microsoft” as a result of which one of their 10 best centers will be constructed in Armenia.

The Minister informed that in the current year Vanadzor Technology Center will be established.
