Right hand of Saint John the Baptist was brought to St John the Baptist Church of Yerevan

YEREVAN, JANUARY 14, ARMENPRESS. Armenian Apostolic Church celebrated the birthday of St John the Baptist on January 14 in St John the Baptist Church of Yerevan. The right hand of Saint was brought to St John the Baptist Church from the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin over the holiday by the authorization of Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch andCatholicos of All Armenians. Then a divine liturgy was served.

As “Armenpress” reports, according to the holy pastor of St John the Baptist Church, priest Abrahamyan, St John the Baptist was attributed a unique role in the world of Christian life. “He has lived in desert since his childhood with ascetic life eating only honey and from animal species – grasshopper. Jesus Christ’s coming and being baptized by the hands of John the Baptist already states the fact that Baptist has greatest mission in spiritual world and is among the saints.

Gregory the Illuminator brought John the Baptist’s relic to Armenia. The believers have the opportunity to be in communion with it twice a year: During the days of Baptist’s death and birthday. Saint’s relic will stay in St John the Baptist Church till 17.00 o’clock.
